Las Vegas, CA – CES Jan. 7, 2014 – PubNub, the only global Real-Time Network, today announced it is showcasing its winning makeathon integration with the Ford AppLink platform at Ford's booth at CES. PubNub was selected as a winner of the VentureBeat and Ford Motor Co. Makeathon for building a real-time dispatch app on PubNub and Ford AppLink. The app provides real-time location tracking and notification via mobile phone to a car’s dashboard, bringing Internet of Things communication and technology to cars.
“The Internet of Things promises humanity amazing omnipotence over our environment. Access to real-time information from millions of globally connected devices, and the ability to instantly control them becomes possible, but only if these devices can transact information quickly and reliably to each other, to servers, and to end-user devices,” said Todd Greene, CEO and founder of PubNub. “PubNub showcases the power and ease-of-use of our Real-Time Network to deliver these kinds of experiences at Ford's booth at CES with our integration to Ford's AppLink platform.”
The winning “Real-Time Taxi” app, developed by PubNub's Geremy Cohen, is an example of the type of applications made possible with the PubNub Real-Time Network and the Ford AppLink platform. The app demonstrates how vehicle dispatch requests can be sent directly to the Ford dashboard, allowing the driver to respond with their steering wheel buttons. This concept is easily extended to a variety of real-time in-car uses: children requesting pick-up from their parents, real-time tracking of a teenage driver by a parent, synchronizing groups of friends driving in a caravan on a trip, commercial fleet management, and many more. PubNub manages the critical component of distributing real-time data to, from, and between drivers.
