The Electric Imp platform is a complete solution to easily connect any device to the Internet. The platform features fully integrated hardware, software, OS, APIs and cloud service, providing devices with intelligence, scalability and flexibility.
“IoT developers have enough to worry about in developing the next generation of connected device applications,” said Todd Greene, CEO and founder of PubNub. “With PubNub and Electric Imp, these developers now have the hardware, software and secure and scalable network to easily launch their IoT products and services, speeding innovation while also providing a reliable user experience.”
"Electric Imp's platform is designed to enable developers to quickly and easily design, build and ship production Internet-connected hardware," said Hugo Fiennes, CEO and Co-founder of Electric Imp. "PubNub's messaging platform provides an elegant extension to Electric Imp, allowing manufacturers to tightly integrate real-time messaging services with their applications.”
The PubNub SDK for Electric Imp allows developers to tap into PubNub’s powerful Data Stream Network and advanced real-time services with just a few lines of code. Such features include security, fine-grain access control, presence detection, multiplexing, storage/playback and multi-device data sync.
At the PubNub-Electric Imp joint IoT hackathon held in September, more than 40 developers leveraged the seamlessly integrated PubNub and Electric Imp solutions to deliver 10 IoT apps in 10 hours.
The winning application, Missio, measured the majority opinions of individuals on the ambience of a shared space – such as a restaurant or night club – by soliciting feedback in realtime and communicating the responses. The Electric Imp platform was used to take accelerator readings on each device and perform aggregation and analytics on the data. PubNub served as the bi-directional communication layer from each of the individual Missio cubes to the central server, and then back to the cubes, informing them of the current consensus of opinion.
